Starting out with Bella Vista in his hometown of Paysandu, Rios played his first game in the Uruguayan top flight in 1999, staying with the club for the next seven seasons. In August 2006 he joined Penarol, quickly making an impression with his selfless and tireless work in midfield.

Within a month Oscar Tabarez had drafted him into the Uruguay squad, sending him on as a second-half substitute in a friendly away to Venezuela. El Maestro called on Rios’s services twice more at the start of 2007 but overlooked him for the Copa America that year.

By the time Tabarez recalled him for the start of the preliminaries for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, Rios had joined Monterrey of Mexico. He came on for Diego Perez in the first half of the qualifier against Chile in November, though sadly for him that would be his last appearance for La Celeste in two and a half years, his reappearance coming in the South Africa 2010 warm-up win over Switzerland this March.

In between times he also ran out for Danubio and Mexico’s San Luis before returning to Penarol to make a sterling contribution to their 2010 Clausura championship triumph. ","229187823D238BA5":"453265","e_index":3};
