Danilo Turcios is a highly versatile defender with a big part to play in Reinaldo Rueda’s tactical plans. Making up for a lack of height with his speed, tenacity and impressive stamina, the 32-year-old rarely comes off second best in one-on-one situations. On top of all that he is tactically disciplined, knows when to get forward and is very experienced, having spent several years abroad.<\/P>
Starting out in 1996 with Universidad de Tegucigalpa, it was not long before he was spotted by Motagua, one of Honduras’s most prestigious clubs, where he won his first league title prior to furthering his career outside the country. Turcios’s first stop was Uruguay, turning out for Club Maldonado, Defensor Sporting and Penarol before decamping to Tecos UAG of Mexico in 2004.<\/P>
Although he held down a first-team place with every club, Turcios eventually went back to Honduras to sign for Olimpia. Aside from a year with Comunicaciones in Guatemala, where he suffered a serious knee injury from which he has now fully recovered, he has stayed with Los Leones ever since, winning three championships with them.<\/P>
Turcios has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the national side. An ever-present at youth level, he has made 80 appearances for his country, featuring in the qualifying competitions for Korea\/Japan 2002, Germany 2006 and South Africa 2010, where he finally achieved his goal of reaching the FIFA World Cup™ finals.
