Profile
Recently rewarded by Eintracht Frankfurt with a new, improved two-year contract, Christoph Spycher is the regular left-back for his German club but generally ranks second in the pecking order for the position behind Ludovic Magnin when it comes to representing his country. Nevertheless, the 30-year-old is a more than capable alternative, offering lively support to the attack when he breaks forward.
Began professional career with FC Luzern in 1999, where he performed creditably for two seasons, earning transfer to Grasshopper-Club.
A Swiss champion in his second season with Grasshoppers but unable to qualify for UEFA Champions League; had three campaigns with club in UEFA Cup.
Made Switzerland debut in prestige friendly v Italy in Geneva on 30 April 2003 – as substitute for Magnin.
Took centre stage at UEFA EURO 2004™ – one of only four Swiss players to play every minute of all three games (despite just two appearances in qualifying).
Just one outing at 2006 FIFA World Cup – against Korea Republic.
Joined Frankfurt in 2005; 84 Bundesliga appearances in three seasons but yet to score a goal; appointed club vice-captain by coach Friedhelm Funkel.
