He may have previously featured in the Champions League with his former club FC Viktoria Plzeň, but it was particularly during the 2012 European Championships that the quick Czech Republic international truly gained attention.
With some impressive performances and two goals, the attacking winger played a major role in securing his side's somewhat surprising progression to the quarter finals of the competition. Now Pilar is hoping to cause a stir in the Bundesliga inthe Green-White of VfL Wolfsburg.
On 4 June 2011, he made his debut for the Czech Republic national team. Pilař joined Plzeň on loan from Hradec Králové at the beginning of the 2011–12 Gambrinus liga season.
After refusing to sign a contract with Plzeň in November 2011, Pilař was reported to have signed a contract with German side VfL Wolfsburg. In January 2012, it was announced that Pilař would join Wolfburg in the summer but would be staying in the Czech Republic in the lead up to the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament. He scored the Czech Republic's first goal in their opening game of the tournament against Russia when they were 2–0 down. |
