Profile
Captain of the FC Twente side that overcame AFC Ajax to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League, Orlando Engelaar should be in confident mood going into his first major tournament for the Netherlands. The towering 28-year-old is an astute passer of the ball and can play just about anywhere in midfield.
Left Feyenoord youth team for NAC Breda, but slow start to career in Eredivisie until he exploded into form in 2002/03 season, scoring 12 league goals to hoist club into fourth place and UEFA Cup.
Enjoyed impressive follow-up season in Eredivisie (nine goals) but European debut was forgettable 5-0 defeat by Newcastle United FC at St James's Park.
Made hop across border to join Belgian club KRC Genk in 2004; successful first season (nine league goals again) ended with UEFA Cup play-off win v R. Standard de Liège.
Two-year spell in Belgium ended with move to Twente in summer 2006 and first caps for Netherlands in June 2007 on end-of-season trip to far east.
Appeared as substitute in final UEFA EURO 2008 qualifier in Belarus.

Engelaar doubled his number of Oranje caps to six by starting all three of the Netherlands' pre-UEFA EURO 2008 friendlies against Ukraine, Denmark and Wales. |
