CAREER One of Germany’s best talents returned to BVB last season: formerly playing to TSV Weißbachtal and Sportfreunde Siegen, Florian Kringe played to BVB from 1994, starting in the youth team winning the B-youth championship four years later. He was assigned to the first squad in 2001 but preferred being hired to Cologne FC from 2002 until 2004.
Despite his young age, Kringe was always with the starters in Cologne attending most of the field players’ assignments throughout the season, added by 40 operations to Germany’s national youth teams.
Aged 22, Kringe conquered a starters position directly after his return to BVB and meanwhile enjoys implication to the A-national team. “For a player from this region, there’s nothing better than playing to BVB. That’s why my future is black and yellow“, the midfielder said when exceeding his contract until 2008.
„Kringe fooled them all: those who deemed him a temporary gap filler same as those describing him as too slow and too clumsy”, the “kicker-Sportmagazin” acclaimes the cross specialist. “Kringe is Dortmund’s dynamo: indefatigable, rugged, athletic, clarified“. A worker famous for his „amazing energy“ (manager H.-J. Watzke), often compared to former BVB player Torsten Frings. “This comparison is not far from reality”, sports director Michael Zorc declared.
STRENGHTS A player fighting until the end, performing with creativity and two strong feet must be in Bert van Marwijk’s good books: the Dutchman likes Kringe’s mutable play, although his headers are still lacking of precision. His passes into the depth of the box remain notorious.
SEASON REVIEW Kringe had his first match as a starter on match day five during the draw against Bayern Munich (2-2), positioned in the centre replacing injured Rosicky. Very soon he was with the usual starters (26x) while becoming Borussia’s most successful preparer with nine assists – top ranked throughout the league. Furthermore he played more crosses than all his other team mates (122) of which five led to a goal. Only his conversion percentage was insufficient: Kringe failed to benefit from all of his four „one hundred per cent“ chances; only one out of his 80 attempts found the goal on match day 29 versus Bielefeld (1-1) which remained his only score until the end of last season.
