| Rotterdam-born Kew Jaliens began his professional career with Sparta in his home town before moving to Willem II during the 1999/2000 season. After cementing a regular place in the Willem II side, he moved to his current club, AZ Alkmaar, on a free transfer in the summer of 2004, at the same time as Co Adriaanse made the move to the Alkmaarder Hout. In November 2005, Jaliens, who has made over 250 appearances in the Eredivisie, signed a new contract with AZ, which ties him to the club until 2008. The right-back received his first call-up to Marco van Basten’s Netherlands squad for the high-profile friendly against Italy in that same month, but had to wait until March this year and the friendly against Ecuador for his Oranje debut.
