Profile:

The top scorer at UEFA EURO 2004 with five goals, Milan Baroš has found it somewhat harder to replicate that form at club level in the four years since his career peak in Portugal. However, he has seldom been found wanting by his country and will be expected to continue his long-standing attacking alliance with Jan Koller at this summer's tournament.

Hot prospect at FC Baník Ostrava; made his national team debut at 19 in March 2001 and scored in his first two matches.

Joined Liverpool FC in 2002; debut in the UEFA Champions League encounter v FC Barcelona at Camp Nou; nine Premier League goals in his first full season.

Missed most of the 2003/04 campaign with a broken leg but returned triumphantly at UEFA EURO 2004, scoring in each group game and twice in the quarter-final versus Denmark.

Maintained form with another five goals in 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but not fully fit at the finals and managed just one appearance (against Italy – 50th cap).

UEFA Champions League winner with Liverpool in 2005 (started all knockout round matches).

Had spells at Aston Villa FC and Olympique Lyonnais; spent second half of the 2007/08 campaign back in England at Portsmouth FC where he won FA Cup.

Baros’s four club transfers have all taken place in mid-season.
