A Latvian Under-21 international, Kolinko made his full debut in a EURO '96? qualifier but did not become a regular in the side until the qualifying campaign for UEFA EURO 2000?. He was the first-choice goalkeeper as Latvia failed to reach that tournament and the subsequent FIFA World Cup finals.

UEFA EURO 2004? qualifying

Firmly established as his country's No1, Kolinko played every minute of Latvia's eight Group 4 games and the two play-offs against Turkey and was instrumental in his team's progress to Portugal.
