Profile:
Andjelko Djuricic was the big surprise in Serbia’s squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. Indeed, just a few months previous he was behind the likes of Vladimir Stojkovic, Bojan Isailovic, Zeljko Brkic and Vladimir Disljenkovic in the race for goalkeeping berths in the 23-man party.

When the latter revoked his Serbian passport in order to gain Ukrainian citizenship, however, Djuricic was named as one of four shot-stoppers in the Beli Orlovi’s provisional squad. The Uniao Leiria player was then handed an unexpected international debut in a friendly against New Zealand and although the result didn’t go Serbia’s way, the 29-year-old impressed with two fine point-blank saves in a 1-0 defeat – saves ultimately good enough to earn him a trip to South Africa at the expense of Brkic.

Djuricic began his career with hometown club Dinamo Pancevo in 2000, and made 67 appearances for them in the Serbian lower leagues before joining top-flight outfit Hajduk Kula two years later. The 1.94m keeper spent seven years guarding the Hajduci goal, before Uniao Leiria snapped him up in 2009.

Despite competition from Helder Godinho and Michael Domingues, Djuricic established himself as the club’s first choice between the sticks and helped them finish mid-table in the 2009/10 Portuguese Liga.
