Profile:

Ashley Errol Williams is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for Premier League club Swansea City and the Wales national team. He is currently captain of both teams. He plays mainly as a central defender.

Williams is a typical ball player. He is fast, physical and though he may be technically inept, he has the ability to get the job done. Williams is a fluid passer of the ball and has a high pass success rate. While some may call it a result of the short passes that dot the tiki-taka like style, stats would suggest otherwise. His average passing length has been 23 meters. That being said, Williams is not so keenly involved in the play-making side of things.

Williams began his career at West Bromwich Albion as a youth player but was released by the club at 16. He went on to play for non-league Hednesford Town, before joining Division Two side Stockport County in 2003. In March 2008, Williams signed for Swansea City on loan until the end of the 2007–08 season, with a view to a permanent move. In October 2012, Williams signed a new three-year contract with Swansea. On 4 July 2014, Williams signed a new four-year contract with Swansea until the summer of 2018. Having qualified to play for the Wales national football team made his international debut on 26 March 2008. In October 2012, Williams was appointed captain of Wales, replacing Aaron Ramsey.
