Profile:

Mauro Daniel Goicoechea Furia was born in Montevideo on 27 March 1988. A very promising young goalkeeper, he signed his first professional contract with Uruguayan side Danubio in 2006, aged just 18. His excellent performances soon made him first choice, and he conceded the fewest goals in the country's Primera Division. Goicoechea has represented his country at youth level, taking part in the 2005 Under-17 World Cup in Peru and in the Under-20 version in Canada in 2007. He stayed with the Montevideo-based outfit until the end of the 2012 summer, when he received a phone call on deadline day from Zdenek Zeman's Roma, the Czech coach having tracked his progress over the last few years.

AS Roma

In August 2012 Mauro moved to A.S. Roma on a loan until the end of the season. He made his debut in a 3-2 loss against Parma F.C. in a second half, substituting injured Maarten Stekelenburg. Goicoechea followed this up with an impressive display in the 4-1 victory over Palermo. He has started the following five games against Lazio, Torino, Pescara, Siena and Fiorentina.

International career

He was part of the Uruguayan team at the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship, and Uruguay U20 team in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup where they reached the round of 16.
