One of several newcomers to the Polish international set-up since the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Rafał Murawski has impressed with his dogged enthusiasm in a defensive midfield role. The 26-year-old also passes the ball with precision and scored with a delightful chip to give Poland the lead in their final UEFA EURO 2008 qualifier away to Serbia.
Played for a couple of local teams in Gdansk before launching his career in Polish second division with Arka Gdynia.
Steered Arka on path towards promotion in 2004/05 before leaving to join KS Amica Wronki mid-campaign.
Ever-present in Ekstraklasa for both Amica in 2005/06 and Lech Poznań (with whom Amica merged) in 2006/07; absent just once for Lech in 2007/08.
Came on as a late substitute in UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying win in Belgium (1-0) to make international debut; scored on first competitive start in Belgrade.
Did you know? Murawski comes from the northern Polish town of Malbork, also the birthplace of Poland's most-capped footballer, 1974 FIFA World Cup star Grzegorz Lato. |
