Profile:
Former Liverpool youth Calum Woods signed a two year deal with Dunfermline in July 2006. A product of the Liverpool Soccer Academy Calum played many games for the Reds at U17 and U19 level. He is described as a full back, left sided but equally comfortable on the right. Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez released five players who failed to break through into the Anfield first team.

Woods was part of the reserve side which finished sixth in the Northern Reserve League but 19-year-old Woods was only a fringe member of the second string squad. The older players have been released to make way for the next crop of successful youngsters to come through, as Liverpool look to capitalise on their FA Youth Cup victory over Manchester City in 2005-06.

Calum is a talented boy from Walton who has been with the Liverpool Academy since the age of 10. He broke into the the U17 side midway through the 2002/03 season playing mostly on the left wing, and caught the eye with some promising displays, and scored his first goal at U17 level in an impressive 3-0 win over Derby at the Academy.

The following year he was one of the side's most reliable and consistent performers, catching the eye in a variety of roles. Injuries disrupted his campaign in 2004/05, but he was one of only a handful of John Owens' U18 squad to be kept on for 2005/06. Versatile and two footed, Calum has played right back, left back and in both wide midfield positions in the last couple of seasons.

Having started to grow and fill out considerably, Calum was switched to centre back at the start of the 2005/06 season and took to his new role with ease, producing a series of impressive performances and even captaining the side.
