The son of one of Ecuador all-time goalscoring greats, Ermen Benitez, the dynamic Cristian brought his all-round skills to the country’s U-17 and U-20 teams. Elusive, quick, skilful and with an eye for goal, he looks to have what it takes to become one of the young stars of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™. The young Benítez has already caused quite a stir by making Luis Fernando Suarez’s final squad list, to the surprise of several observers. This quick-thinking striker runs out for El Nacional of Quito and won his place in the national set-up after last March’s friendly defeat to Holland. Although yet to hold down a regular place with his club side, the compact frontman already has some valuable Copa Libertadores experience under his belt.
