Tom Pondeljak was one of the first signings completed by the Central Coast Mariners and upon glancing at his resume it’s easy to see why. Midfielder Pondeljak is one of the NSL’s best ever performed players and with a four senior Socceroo caps to his name, Pondeljak is one of the more sought after talents in the Hyundai A-League. In 1995/96 he debuted in the NSL for the Melbourne Knights and went on to enjoy four seasons at Somers Street, highlighted by 29 goals to his name. A move to Sydney United in 1999/00 was followed by a switch south to Sydney Olympic in 2001/02, where he claimed his first NSL Championship. His second arrived in 2003/04 when he joined the Perth Glory, scoring seven goals in 26 appearances along the way. His Socceroo caps came about in 2002 when he was added to Australia’s roster for the 2002 OFC Nations Cup in Auckland. After debuting against Vanuatu, Pondeljak went on to face Fiji, Tahiti and New Zealand. A world-class player and huge coup for the Mariners.
