Not in the frame four years ago, 26-year-old winger Giannis Amanatidis has worked his way diligently into coach Otto Rehhaghel's UEFA EURO 2008 plans with some energetic and industrious performances, not to mention the small matter of a winning goal away to Turkey in the qualifying campaign, a result that sealed Greece's place in Austria and Switzerland.

Born in Greece but emigrated to Germany at age of nine and has played all his club football there.

Two seasons in second division with SpVgg Greuther Fürth before debut Bundesliga campaign with VfB Stuttgart in 2002/03; helped club to runners-up spot and also made national team debut for Greece (20 November 2002 v Republic of Ireland).

Joined Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2004 but relegated and spent following season back in German top flight with 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Returned to Frankfurt following club's immediate promotion; scored 12 league goals in 2005/06.

Ten UEFA EURO 2008  qualifying appearances; goal v Turkey in Istanbul his first for Greece – almost five years after debut; scored again in next game v Malta.

Did you know?

Amanatidis's first senior game on Greek soil came when he played for VfB Stuttgart at Panathinaikos FC in a 2003/04 UEFA Champions League encounter.
