Djamal Abdoun is a French-born Algerian player who started out his career in France at the age of 16 in 2002 with the youth team of French giants Paris Saint-Germain, where the midfielder stayed for only one season. After 10 appearance and two goals in three seasons with another French side, AC Ajaccio, he was loaned out to English side Manchester City in 2006, where he failed to make a single appearance. His prospects took a turn for the better the next season with a move back to France, and he managed to make a good impression with Sedan, playing 33 times and scoring 5 goals in that first season. Such were his performances that he caught the attention of Nantes, and the last two seasons have seen him become a regular with the historic outfit.
On the international level, Abdoun was part of the France set-up at the U-17 and U-21 level, but he could not resist a full national team call-up for the Desert Foxes ahead of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. He made his debut for Algeria on 18 January, 2010, in the goalless draw against hosts Angola in the group stage that saw his team qualify for the knockout rounds. Apparently Abdoun made quite an impression with coach Rabah Saadane during that game as he participated in the remaining three matches for the side as they ran out to fourth place. Abdoun also participated in March’s friendly against Serbia, which the Algerians lost 0-3. |
