An exciting right-winger who is expected to compete with Jakub Błaszczykowski for a starting berth in Leo Beenhakker's UEFA EURO 2008 team, 25-year-old Wojciech Łobodziński has won the Polish title in each of the past two seasons with different clubs.
Began locally with Zawisza Bydgoszcz before a short spell at Stomil Olsztyn led him to Orlen (later Wisła) Płock.
Relegated and promoted in successive seasons with Orlen but dropped a division to join Zagłębie Lubin, with whom he also won promotion, in 2003/04.
Scored seven goals to help Zagłębie stay up in 2004/05; club finished third following season.
He started all 30 matches – the only player to do so – and scored three goals as Lubin club won Polish title in 2006/07; scored on European debut in UEFA Cup qualifying tie against FC Dinamo Minsk.
Won first cap in December 2006; scored on debut UEFA EURO 2008 start (5-0 v Azerbaijan in Warsaw), one of seven appearances he made in qualifying competition.
Joined Wisła Kraków from Zagłębie in January 2008 and won second successive title.
Did you know? Łobodziński was a member of the Poland team that won the last UEFA European Under-18 Championship, staged in Finland in 2001. He completed the scoring in the 3-1 final win against the Czech Republic. |
