Profile:
Though only 25, Brad Guzan is rising fast in the competitive world of big league goalkeeping, where patience and experience often trumps ability. Currently playing understudy to namesake and former USA international hero Brad Friedel at English Premier League outfit Aston Villa, Guzan has established himself as a safe and ready number two, behind Everton's Tim Howard, in Bob Bradley's USA set-up.

He began his professional career in Los Angeles with Chivas USA, and immediately made an impact with his amazing shot-stopping ability, spring-loaded reflexes and cool instincts between the posts. Guzan spent three seasons with the Southern California Major League Soccer outfit and was named the league's best goalkeeper of 2007. His performances attracted the attention of Villa boss Martin O'Neill, who swooped in for the youngster and eventually secured him a work permit. Although Guzan's playing time has been limited by the evergreen antics of Friedel, the youngster has acquitted himself well when called upon.

He has earned ten caps for the US national team after putting in good service in the youth set-up and starting all three of the USA's games at the Olympic Football Tournament in Beijing in the summer of 2008. He has firmly established himself as an able stand-in for undisputed number one Howard and was a part of the USA squad that progressed to the final of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa.
