Looking at the recent history of VfL Wolfsburg, this is a name which quickly springs to mind. 'Schäfi'  is a club veteran, leader as well as spokesman for the team and has been first choice on VfL's left side for many years. Whether in the back four, on the wing or in a central role – Marcel Schäfer can be found all over the pitch!

In his sixth season as a Green-White, the basketball enthusiast has his eye on a special accolade this season – Miroslav Karhan's successor as VfL's all-time Bundesliga appearance record holder.

He made his international debut for Germany on 19 November 2008 in a friendly against England.
