While his father Karel coached SK Slavia Praha to the 2007/08 Czech championship, David Jarolim completed a fifth consecutive season in the German Bundesliga with Hamburger SV. A midfield all-rounder, he can play in the centre but generally does his best work out wide on the right.

Played youth football with Slavia before moving to Germany at 16 and pursuing his professional career with FC Bayern München.

Made just one substitute appearance in three seasons at Bayern; moved to 1. FC Nürnberg, helping them to promotion in first season.

Following relegation with Nürnberg in 2003 joined Hamburg; helped club to third place in 2005/06 Bundesliga and won first international cap in FIFA World Cup qualifier v Netherlands.

Made UEFA Champions League debut in 2006/07 (three matches); scored first goal in European club competition in 2007/08 – a 3-1 UEFA Cup win away to FC Zürich.

Six UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying appearances including three starts.
