| Emerson is a midfield all-rounder: playmaker, dribbler and ball winner. He missed the 2002 FIFA World Cup™ after breaking his arm in a freak accident when he was keeping goal in training on the eve of the tournament. However, he had better luck in 2005 when he won the FIFA Confederations Cup. Part of the Gremio team that won the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores in 1995, he was subsequently sold to Bayer Leverkusen in 1997. After moving to Italy, he won the Serie A title in 2001 with Roma and in 2005 with Juventus.
