COMMANDING Bishop Auckland-born right-back who signed professional forms in the summer of 2003. Captained Boro and played in all seven games during the 2004 FA Youth Cup-winning campaign. Also represented England U-19s in the European Championships. McMahon showed he could step up to first team level in pre-season 2003-04 when he stood in to cover during friendlies. His reward was a dramatic debut at Old Trafford in October 2004, when he played his part in a creditable 1-1 draw in an injury-hit team. McMahon forced his way into the first team reckoning, during the 2004/05 season, with a series of highly impressive performances. His progress was hamered by injury problems which forced him to miss much of the 2005/06 season but he returned to full fitness towards the end of the campaign. |
