A Croatian international since 2004, Danijel Pranjić has been more involved for his country over the past 12 months than ever before. A talented left-sided midfielder or full-back, he packs a powerful shot and poses a particular threat at set-pieces. He is under long-term contract at Dutch club SC Heerenveen.
Began with NK Osijek, helping club to fourth place in the 2003/04 Croatian Prva Liga before moving to NK Dinamo Zagreb.
Disastrous 2004/05 season at club level as Dinamo failed to reach league play-offs and finished lowly seventh; however, received first international call-up and made debut appearance in Dublin friendly against Republic of Ireland (0-1).
Joined Heerenveen in 2005; scored on home debut in 5-4 win over Roda JC; ever-present in second season and scored away to Parma FC in UEFA Cup.
Came on as a substitute in three of last four UEFA EURO 2008 qualifiers against Andorra, Israel and England – his first competitive international appearances.
Played full 90 minutes for Croatia for first time in March 2008 friendly v Scotland.
Did you know? Heerenveen were first alerted to Pranjić's talents when he scored against them for Dinamo Zagreb in a 2-2 draw in the group phase of the 2004/05 UEFA Cup. |
