Profile:
Rafik Djebbour is another French-born Algerian player who is unique amongst his team-mates for being the only one who has played almost all of his club football in Greece. Despite being born in Grenoble, and although he started out his football career in the youth team of Auxerre, the young striker made his first professional move at the age of 20 in 2004 to Belgian side La Louvierre where he played 20 games and scored three goals. The following season the striker decided to take off for Greece and he hasn’t left since.  In July 2005, Djebbour joined Greek side Ethnikos Asteras which was a second division side at the time, and he made a good impression as he participated in 16 games and managed to score 11 goals in only five months. This run of good form caught the eyes of another Greek side, Atromitos, who signed the player in the winter transfer window in January 2006.

At the end of that season Djebbour moved on to Panionios where he stayed for 2 seasons, managing to score 18 goals in 39 games, which then attracted the attention of AEK Athens, one of the biggest clubs in Greece. Djebbour had an impressive first season with AEK Athens appearing in 21 games and scoring 7 goals and in that same season he reached the final of the Greek Cup. He made his debut with the Desert Foxes in an unofficial friendly game against Istres in August 2006 and his first official game was the following day against Gabon, which Algeria lost 0-2.  He played a key role in Algeria’s winning campaign to qualify for the FIFA World Cup and scored a crucial goal in Algeria’s 3-1 victory over Egypt in June 2009.
