Profile:

A tidy, attack-minded right-back who can also operate in a wide midfield berth, Zdenek Pospech started each of the Czech Republic's last three UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying matches. He subsequently left AC Sparta Praha for Danish club FC København in the winter break.

Originally with SFC Opava, he joined FC Baník Ostrava in 2001 and proved highly influential in club's Czech championship triumph of 2003/04, scoring nine goals (all by early March).

After four seasons at Baník, concluding with Czech Cup win, he was recruited by Sparta in summer 2005 and made national team debut immediately afterwards – against Sweden in Gothenburg.

Played all six games for Sparta in 2005/06 UEFA Champions League – two apiece against AFC Ajax, Arsenal FC and FC Thun.

Won domestic double in 2006/07; most appearances of any outfield player (27); Czech Cup win was his third in a row.

Rejoined ex-Sparta team-mate and fellow Czech international Libor Sionko at København.

Did you know?
The second of Pospech's three straight Czech Cup wins came when Sparta won the 2006 final on penalties against … Baník, the team with whom he had won the trophy 12 months earlier. He declined to take a spot-kick in the shoot-out.
