A tall, muscular defender whose towering performances in the Greek rearguard earned him a place in the UEFA EURO 2004? All-Star Team, Traianos Dellas has never fully enhanced that reputation at club level, suffering from a catalogue of injury problems.

Born in northern Greece, played for Panserraikos FC and Aris Thessaloniki FC before relegation with latter prompted a move to England, where he spent two seasons in the second tier with Sheffield United FC.

Joined AEK Athens FC in 1999, winning Greek Cup in 2000 – his only major club honour.

Three-year, injury-stricken spell at AS Roma preceded by Serie A bedding-in season at AC Perugia.

Became a favourite of Greece coach Otto Rehhagel in UEFA EURO 2004? qualifying campaign and started all six matches in Portugal, scoring silver goal winner against Czech Republic in semi-final.

Returned to AEK in 2005; three UEFA Champions League appearances in 2006/07 to add to seven made with Roma.
