Profile:

Opportunity knocked for Albert Bunjaku when Marco Streller's injury misfortune earned him a late call-up from Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld just before the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. The Nurnberg forward made his international bow in a 1-0 friendly defeat against Norway in November 2009 and was given another run-out in the 3-1 loss to Uruguay in March of this year.

Bunjaku, 26, began his career with Swiss second-division outfit Schaffhausen in 2003, helping them to seal promotion to Switzerland's top flight in his very first season. In the 2005/06 winter break Bunjaku took a chance on a move abroad and hooked up with German second-division side Paderborn. He then switched to Erfurt of the third division, scoring 34 goals in 74 appearances before joining Nurnberg in 2009.

It was here the Swiss international, who was born in the Kosovan city of Gnjilane, made the breakthrough in Germany's top tier. Bunjaku hit the net twelve times in 28 outings, goals that ensured Nurnberg maintained their Bundesliga status. Bunjaku is likely to be a squad player in South Africa but will be burning for a chance to show what he can do.
