Martin Skrtel is a Slovak professional footballer who plays as a centre back for English club Liverpool and captains the Slovakia national team.
Skrtel is very much from football's old school, and there is little nuance to his game. Skrtel's priority, first and foremost, is to stop the ball reaching the goal, and to clear from danger whenever possible. His pass completion rate has also been superb, especially when you consider he is not always associated with being the most accomplished centre-back on the ball.
He previously played for Trencin and Zenit Saint Petersburg, before joining Liverpool in January 2008. Since Skrtel made his international debut for Slovakia in 2004, he has since earned over 75 caps, and represented the country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
