McSHANE joined Albion from Manchester United in August 2006 as part of the deal which took Tomasz Kuszczak to Old Trafford on a season-long loan. The Ireland Under-21 international penned a three-year Hawthorns deal. McShane underlined his Championship pedigree in 2005/06 during a season-long loan at Brighton. The no-nonsense centre-half made 40 starts for Mark McGhee's side, scoring four goals, and his tigerish performances saw him voted Player of the Year by Seagulls supporters. The former Ireland Under-19 defender also spent a month on loan at neighbours Walsall the previous season, making three starts and scoring once for the Saddlers. Although he failed to make a senior appearance for United, he was a key figure in their FA Youth Cup-winning side of 2003. |
