Profile:

A very quick, skilful and direct winger who creates scoring chances and emerged as one of the most dangerous attackers in Lithuania with FBK Kaunas whom he joined in 2003 from Sviesa Vilnius. In addition, during his home debut for Hearts against Aberdeen on 29 January 2005, Saulius demonstrated a work rate that has made him extremely popular at Tynecastle.

He burst onto the scene in 2004, as FBK Kaunas won the Lithuanian Championship which runs from April to November. His dynamic play was a feature of FBK and Saulius was rewarded by promotion from the national Under-21 side to the Full International team. He subsequently earned six caps prior to joining Hearts and took part in last year's World Cup games against Spain and Belgium.

The speedy winger who can operate on both flanks has also gained experience in Europe taking part in FBK's Champions League Qualifying Round matches against Sliema Wanderers and Djurgardens of Stockholm.

During the January transfer window, Saulius joined Hearts on a six month contract and he has delighted the fans with his ability to take on defenders and create chances. He also scored his first goal for the club when Hearts beat Kilmarnock 3-0 in the League on 12 February.

However, at the beginning of March, the Lithuanian winger was caught up in the excitement that followed a penalty award to Rangers at Tynecastle and he made headlines for unfortunate reasons by receiving two red cards and a subsequent eight match suspension.
