A member of the SK Rapid Wien side that won the 2007/08 Austrian championship, Markus Katzer is expected to challenge Roland Gercaliu for the left-back spot in Austria's UEFA EURO 2008 team. A senior international since August 2003, he has made only two starts for his country during Josef Hickersbarger's time in charge.
Began professional career with VfB Admira Wacker Mödling, making Bundesliga debut on 24 May 2001.
Became fixture at Admira over next three seasons as team battled successfully to avoid relegation.
Made international debut while still at Admira but became more involved after summer 2004 move to Rapid, starting back-to-back FIFA World Cup qualifying wins against Wales (2-0, 1-0).
Bundesliga title-winner in first season at Rapid, making 31 appearances (including 23 starts) and scoring four goals.
Made UEFA Champions League debut in 4-0 away defeat by FC Bayern München during 2005/06 group phase.
Scored winner for Rapid at home against reigning champions FC Salzburg in August 2007 (1-0) – his third goal in six Bundesliga games.
