Profile:
Naoki Matsuda is a Japanese footballer who currently plays for Yokohama F. Marinos, as a defender.
Having played his entire career at Yokohama F. Marinos, Matsuda has a reputation as a hardman on the field, an image bolstered when he shaved his head. However, it is said his young son was scared when he saw his dad's shaved head so Matsuda re-grew his hair. This hasn't stopped him being something of a firebrand on the pitch, though. He is a fans favourite and a tireless worker who often appears up front near the end of games when the F-Marinos are behind.
Matsuda scored his first goal for the club on September 30, 1995 at Mitsuzawa Stadium. Internationally, he represented Japan at the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2002 FIFA World Cup, both played on home soil, and also competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
