| Attacking midfielder Luis ‘Lucho’ Gonzalez was one of the stars of the 2004 CONMEBOL Copa America competition. His performances on the right side of midfield and his two goals went some way to ensuring Argentina's run to the final, where they lost against Brazil. The former River Plate star was also part of his country's gold medal-winning team at the 2004 Olympic Football Tournament, scoring against Italy in the semi-final. In the summer of 2005 he earned a transfer to FC Porto, where he soon established himself as a key player and won the Portuguese league and cup double in 2006.
