Gary McSheffrey joined Blues from Midlands neighbours Coventry in August 2006 for a substantial fee. The 24-year-old striker had been a long time target of boss Steve Bruce, who put in no less than four bids for the player, before finally capturing him. The former England under 20 international has an abundance of pace and excellent technical ability and can play on either the left of midfield or as an outright striker. He finished the 2005/06 season as top scorer for Micky Adams' Coventry side with 17 goals from the left flank. McSheffrey is a product of Coventry's Academy and prior to moving to St. Andrew's he spent his entire career with his hometown club, except for loan spells at Luton Town and Stockport County. Following his Coventry debut as a 16-year-old, McSheffrey went on to make a total of 162 appearances for the Sky Blues and scored 53 goals. |
