National team

The Surinam-born Clarence Seedorf is well past his half-century of Dutch international caps, having made his debut as an 18-year-old against Luxembourg in 1994. He was subsequently called up for the 1996 UEFA European Championship finals, when his penalty miss cost the Netherlands in a quarter-final shoot-out against France. He then appeared at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2000?.

Club

Made his name with Ajax. After breaking into the first team at the age of 16, Seedorf won two Dutch titles and one Dutch Cup. Lifting the Champions League trophy was his final act as an Ajax player before he switched to Italy’s Sampdoria UC, where he stayed for a season.

1996: Joined Real Madrid CF in an €8.6m deal and claimed the Spanish title in his first season before reacquainting himself with the European Champion Clubs' Cup the next year.

1999: Moved to Internazionale FC in a loan deal that eventually became a €25m permanent transfer. Played a key role as Inter finish second in the 2002 championship race.

2002/03: Seedorf crossed the city to sign for Milan in a swap deal involving Francesco Coco. His reward came when the Rossoneri secured a Champions League/Italian Cup double, Seedorf playing 14 times in Europe.
