ALLAN McGREGOR's route to a first-team jersey are blocked by the imposing figures of Stefan Klos and Ronald Waterreus but the big keeper has never let Rangers down when called upon.

The young stopper spent the first half of last season on loan at St Johnstone where he gained valuable first team experience helping the side push for promotion, but that deal expired on January 1 and he returned to Ibrox.

A cruciate ligament injury to Klos handed him an unexpected recall to the side and he kept a clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Livingston on January 29. However, the capture of vastly experienced Dutchman Waterreus added to the fact he was cup-tied for the CIS fixtures restricted his appearances.

When Allan arrived at Rangers in the summer of 1998 he was described as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe.

A serious wrist injury, however sustained during a youth match, followed by a broken hand almost destroyed his dreams and he was sidelined for nearly a year.

Having been handed his first top team appearance in the Scottish Cup, coming on after 70 minutes to replace Klos against Forfar in February 2002, he was then awarded his first start against Dunfermline in the final game of that season.

Working alongside Klos and Billy Thompson has helped McGregor immensely and he is now hoping to build on his early success and progress even more in the years to come.

Allan went on loan to Dunfermline for a year in order to further his football development but returned for season 2006/07. He made his first appearance of the campaign in the 2-2 draw away to Kilmarnock.
