| A versatile midfielder, Lewandowski is consistently included in national team coach Pawel Janas’ squad lists. He can play in defence when required and was hailed as one of Poland’s most promising players when he captained their U-21 squad. By the age of 22, he had secured a transfer to top Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, where he won the league title in 2002. Appeared in only three of Poland’s ten qualification matches for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, but started both games against main group rivals England. Despite his position in a holding role, he is also known for his ability to finish.
