| Fredrik Stenman is one of Sweden’s most versatile performers. Regularly deployed at left-back, the Bayer Leverkusen man can do a reliable job anywhere across the backline. Stenman started out at Vasteras but moved to Djurgarden in 2003, via a short stay at Elfsborg. The youngster impressed at Djurgarden, playing his part in their Swedish title successes of 2003 and 2005 and before long he was attracting second glances from Europe’s big leagues. Birmingham City and Feyenoord both showed an interest but it was Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen who won the race to sign him in January 2006, with the club’s sporting director Rudi Voller comparing him to German legend Andreas Brehme. Stedman’s comfort in possession and tough tackling have helped him become an established player at the BayArena.
