Profile:

Experienced French central defender Sebastien Squillaci joined Arsenal from Sevilla in the summer of 2010.

The strong, imposing defender has represented France more than 20 times after a number of successful years in Europe with the likes of Monaco and Lyon. His form in France earned him a move to Spain, where Sebastien continued to impress.

The stopper arrived with pedigree and made his debut alongside Laurent Koscielny in Arsenal's 4-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at Emirates Stadium in September 2010.

Sebastien was used in a back-up capacity last season with Laurent Koscielny, Thomas Vermaelen and Per Mertesacker all impressing throughout the campaign. However, he still played six times in all competitions and filled in well during Arsenal's injury-hit Christmas period.

He was particularly impressive as Arsenal reached the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup, performing strongly against both Bolton and Manchester City.

The Frenchman was part of AS Monaco's impressive run to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2004, helping the side reach the final by beating Real Madrid and Chelsea en route.

Moving on to Lyon in 2006, he won two Ligue 1 titles and the French Cup during his two-year spell with the club. He enjoyed success with Sevilla two, picking up a Copa del Rey winners' medal in 2009/10 before his departure to north London.

The Toulon-born centre back is now closing in on his 500th overall appearance.
