| AS Roma defender Leandro Cufre is yet another player to have worked with Argentina coach Jose Pekerman at youth level. A product of the Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata youth set-up, Cufre played a key role in helping the Albiceleste to victory at both the 1997 South American Youth Championship and that year’s FIFA World Youth Championship in Malaysia. Never one to shirk a physical challenge, Cufre is strong in the air and adept at playing anywhere across the backline. A veteran of four years' fiercely competitive Serie A action, the defender has once again caught the eye of the Argentine coach, who brought him into the national team squad for his side’s pre-FIFA World Cup™ warm-up games.
