A highly-experienced midfielder, Anders Svensson has continued to thrive at international level following his decision three years ago to return home from England (after relegation with Southampton FC) and rejoin IF Elfsborg. A purposeful attacking midfielder, he strikes the ball with power and precision, particularly from free-kicks.

Started out with Elfsborg in Sweden's second tier before winning promotion to the Allsvenskan in 1996.

Four complete seasons in the Allsvenskan with the Boras club; best place fifth in 2000, when he made his breakthrough into the national team.
Moved to Southampton in summer 2001 after winning the Swedish Cup with Elfsborg; impressive first season in the Premier League carried him into the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he scored a brilliant free-kick to eliminate Argentina and put Sweden into the last 16.

Fiftieth cap came in the UEFA EURO 2004? quarter-final versus the Netherlands but it was spoilt by a penalty shoot-out defeat and elimination.
Just one outing at the 2006 World Cup – dropped after the shock opening 0-0 draw v Trinidad and Tobago.

Reinstated for UEFA EURO 2008 qualifiers after inspiring Elfsborg to the 2006 Allsvenskan title.
