National team

Dabizas made his international debut in a EURO '96?qualifier against Finland in 1994. He played a full part in that campaign and subsequent attempts to reach two FIFA World Cups and the 2000 UEFA European Championship.

UEFA EURO 2004?qualifying

Indeed, Dabizas was an integral figure as Greece topped Group 6 above Spain, playing every minute of the first six qualifiers. Hours after his final outing, the 1-0 victory against Ukraine in June 2003, the defender broke an arm in a car accident.

Club

Dabizas kicked off his career with Pontii Verias FC who had spotted him playing amateur football as a teenager. He helped the Greek side win the third division north in his first season and was a regular over the next two terms to earn a move to Olympiacos CFP at the age of 21.

1994: Dabizas joined a club starved of success, having not won a Greek championship since 1986\/87, but now on the cusp of a period of domestic domination. The defender featured 31 times as Olympiacos ended their title drought in 1996\/97 and scored five times in 20 matches the following season prior to a €2m move to Newcastle United FC in March 1998.

1998: Two months later Dabizas appeared in Newcastle's FA Cup final defeat by Arsenal FC. He made a second Wembley appearance the following year but Newcastle lost out again, this time against Manchester United FC. Dabizas suffered more bad luck in the 2000\/01 campaign when a serious knee problem sidelined him for eight months.

2003\/04: After eleven goals in 130 Premiership outings for Newcastle, Dabizas joined Leicester City FC in January 2004, signing a six-month contract with an option for an extra year.
