One of the Slovenia squad’s most experienced campaigners, Andrej Komac earned his 40th cap in the 3-0 qualifying win over Poland last September. The central midfielder is no longer an automatic starter at international level, with Aleksandar Radosavljevic generally the preferred partner for captain Robert Koren, but his commitment and physical attributes continue to make him a valuable member of Matjaz Kek’s squad.<\/P>
Komac featured in six of Slovenia’s 12 South Africa 2010 qualifiers and his combative style offers a different option to the more refined Radosavljevic at the heart of Slovenia’s midfield engine room. The 30-year-old has been part of the national set-up since U-15 level, and with only Koren and Bostjan Cesar having made more appearances for the senior side, his experience could well prove to be invaluable.<\/P>
Komac will also be able to call upon the knowhow he has picked up over a varied club career that has included spells in Portugal, Sweden and, currently, Israel. The midfielder’s formative years were spent in his homeland with NK Primorje, Olimpija Ljubljana and Gorica, with whom he won the league title in 2005 and 2006, performing to a standard that won him a move to Portuguese outfit Marítimo. That first foreign adventure proved short-lived but, following a brief return to Gorica, he began a more fulfilling spell overseas with Stockholm side Djurgarden. Komac spent over three years in Sweden, making 71 appearances, but when his contract expired in 2009 he opted for a fresh adventure in very different surroundings. Israel and Maccabi Tel Aviv was the midfielder’s next stop, and it is there that he will be aiming to catch Kek’s eye ahead of South Africa 2010.<\/P>","B6B40535701B4CD0DB864915DEF06E2A":"","e_index":5};
