In 2003, at the age of 18, he moved to England after signing his first professional contract with English giants Liverpool, although he never made his debut for the Reds despite staying officially with the club for three years. Since he had trouble finding a regular place at Liverpool, the English club felt it best to send the young defender back to France in 2004 on loan with second division side FC Lorient, where he played for one season. The following season they loaned him out once again to another French side, but this time to first division club FC Metz. He moved in a transfer deal the following year to promoted FC Lorien, but only staying again for a season before moving on to another French side, Ajaccio.

Despite captaining the U-21 French team at the Toulon tournament in 2005, Medjani repeatedly expressed interest in representing Algeria, his country of origin. And this year veteran coach Rabah Saadane took him up on his word and summoned him to join the squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, which could well be the stage for his debut with the Desert Foxes.","3DD52A7123843A0599BD59EBE6AB4E97":"Trabzonspor","C9B224F2C5B356EF":"Sivasspor","B628C0FB460378A51A233D645651DF2F":"","033EA04110C4B96A":"1","FD1933E1882D5E7A216F21827D2B22B4":"","26A41B77C025E2F442D11C4E5D31FCE8":"2","76E5DE99890AB189":"184cm","31E4B7E841B17C66":"Carl Medjani","6438FCEB8DF4FD6202A461D3835934E5":"Leganes,Levante,AC Milan,Apolonia Fier,Trabzonspor,Valenciennes US[on loan],AS Monaco,Olympiakos Piraeus[on loan],Ajaccio,Lorient,Metz,Liverpool,Saint-Etienne","e_index":7};
