Although Aleksander Seliga has been part of the Slovenia squad since 2007, it was only in March of this year that the 30-year-old made his international debut. A 20-minute run-out in the 4-1 friendly win over Qatar represented overdue reward for the reserve keeper’s patience, although he is expected to travel to South Africa as third choice behind the Handanovic cousins, Samir and Jasmin.<\/P>
It has, though, already been an encouraging year for Seliga, whose consistent showings for NK Celje earned him a move to the Dutch top flight with Sparta Rotterdam. This switch to the Eredivisie, where he has become Sparta’s established first choice, has proved more successful than his previous foreign move, when he made just two appearances during a frustrating season-long stint with Czech side Slavia Prague.<\/P>
However, most of Seliga’s career has been spent keeping goal for Celje, his hometown team, with that short-lived period in Prague sandwiched in between separate six- and three-year spells with his first professional club. Seliga is certainly no stranger to disappointment, and the move to Sparta only came about after an unsuccessful trial period at Heerenveen that saw him fail to win a contract.
