An experienced left-sided defender, Saud Filekovic will likely provided back-up to Matjaz Kek’s first-choice fullbacks at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. The 31-year-old stepped in to play against both Northern Ireland and Czech Republic during Slovenia’s qualifying campaign, helping to keep a clean sheet against the latter, and has proved a reliable figure whenever called upon.<\/P>
Filekovic has enjoyed spells in Croatia, Greece, Belgium, Russia and England, but his club career has been dominated by three separate spells at Maribor. Slovenia’s most successful club first signed him in 1999 after he impressed with Ljubljana outfit NK Olimpija during his teenage years, and he spent four successful seasons with the Vijoli\u010dasti before being snapped up by Hadjuk Split in 2003.<\/P>
Two years in Croatia were followed by short-lived spells with Ergotelis in the Greek Super League, Mouscron in Belgium and Russian Premier League outfit FC Krylia Sovetov Samara before Filekovic returned to Maribor in the summer of 2007. However, after winning another Slovenian league championship in season 2008\/09, the defender opted to begin another foreign adventure, moving to England to sign a short-term deal with second tier Barnsley.
