By the time his scholarship came around he had shot up to a decent height, and is now comfortably amongst the taller players in the squad.<BR>Unexpectedly, and perhaps as a consequence of a proliferation of left-back options, George played pretty much all of his football in 2009-10 in an anchor role in defensive midfield. Whilst perhaps not of ideal stature for the role, he dislayed good intelligence, composure and touch in breaking up play and keeping it simple.<BR><BR>He was rewarded for his development with a professional contract in July 2010, and was a growing presence in the Under-18 team (often at centre-back), whilst making the step-up to the reserve team squad. Towards the end of the campaign he became a feature for Steve Holland on the way to winning the national Reserve League title, and under Dermot Drummy in 2011-12 George was a regular part of the team in both defensive and midfield capacities; often lining up at centre-back.<BR><BR><STRONG>Pre-Chelsea <BR><BR><\/STRONG>George came to Chelsea as an 11 year-old in 2004 when Brendan Rodgers joined the club from Reading.
