| A versatile left-sided or central midfielder, Esteban Cambiasso played in the Argentina teams that took third place at the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Championship and first place at the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship in Malaysia. At 16 he signed for Real Madrid but was loaned to Independiente and River Plate back in his homeland. After limited opportunities with Madrid, he eventually moved on to Internazionale in Italy, where he has developed into an important first-team player. In 2005 he starred for Argentina at the FIFA Confederations Cup, where they finished as runners-up.
